State Trooper Now Holding Self Defense Classes in Rutherfordton, North Carolina
Most would consider Instructor DeLauter highly trained and capable. Several years in Tae Kwon Do, and academy training as a Maryland State Trooper, you would think he would be highly skilled in self-defense…and he is, but his previous self-defense training didn’t work as expected.
“I trained in Taekwondo for 4 years and received self-defense training through the state police. I have been in several fights as a State Trooper. Instead of utilizing my taekwondo and self-defense techniques I learned in police training, I used what came to me naturally. I would simply over-power these folks and bring them to the ground by any means I could.”
Simply put, Instructor DeLauter picked the Self Defense Company for one simple reason,
“I chose the SDC because it is the best in real self-defense out there. In a real fight, you don’t think, you act. In a real fight, most techniques you learn in most systems fail, and you resort back to your gross motor skills.”
It is his real word experience that makes Instructor DeLauter’s self-defense classes so valuable. He knows what works and what doesn’t when you’re in life or death situations.
“Had I known about this method of defense as a police officer, I would have been much more confident in my ability to defend myself and others. In my search of defense schools, I found a few schools that seemed more “attractive” but after seeing some of their training videos, they also were not geared for real defense training. I really don’t believe much can be improved upon with the SDC program in self-defense. This is the best of the best. I have no doubt.”

Aloha all!
Moving from Kauai to Washington state where I will be making a commitment to teach the SDC. Been teaching for over 4 decades and am excited to have found this platform to work from. I am a 9th degree black belt in Kenpo, I have a black belt in Lima Lama and have been studying La Systema since 1998. What attracted me to the SDTC is the straight to the throat simplicity of it.
Just getter done! No slick trick moves….. Until then, Train honestly, Teach honestly!

What attracted me was the simplicity. I have over 35 years of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer and over 12 years of combined experience in three Martial Arts. As Instructor DeLauter said, those things won’t work on the street. Street fighting using Martial Arts only works in movies and TV shows that are choreographed.
