  1. Interesting idea. The last time I heard of this in any movie was the John Wick series “he killed 3 men in a bar with a pencil.” I know they restrict things like pens and pencils in Jail/Correctional Settings for this reason. Y’all should totally do a review of movie scenes with interesting kill moves and see what is potentially real and what is false.

    1. That would be cool…but probably not that much fun…because most of the stuff in John Wick is not realistic. From soft body armor performing like Captain America’s shield to rolling down several flights of cement stairs only get up and keep fighting. However, I do enjoy suspending reality for JW.

  2. Guess if all I had within reach was a pencil I would consider using it. But why wouldn’t you use an ice pick grip with your thumb on the eraser vs the eraser against your palm?

    1. Hey TJ – you definitely could…keep in mind…different grip – different strike path. Ice pick will require you to draw back (either up or across your body). This grip allows for a more direct path to target without telegraphing as much. Also, Ice pick coming downward changes your target areas to a standing target. You can surely hit the side of the neck, the front of the throat would be tough.

Great stuff – thanks for posting.

      1. Thanks for pointing the targeting out! I carry a pen both for signing papers and as a potential improvised self defense tool in restrictive areas. But I always just looked at it as a force multiplier for hammer fist strikes. But the trachea does seem like a more effective target than the side of the neck and I can see the surprise factor coming in handy as well. I’ll definitely add in some practice for the palm hold with my pen!

  3. Hey Damian

Excellent video, I would have never thought to use a pencil, because they break easily.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I have learned a lot thus far, I am really looking forward to learning more.
The dummy you were using today, can that be used for, chin jab’s, and neck chop’s?
