Dallas,

I agree. I read an article yesterday where a 13 year old had a toy gun and refused to put it down and even, according to some reports, pointed it at the police officers. Now, there was no way the officers could know it was a toy; it was made up to look exactly like an AK-47. So, fearing for their lives, the officers shot and killed the boy. But, if you read all the comments that the keyboard warriors are posting on this, you will see things like, “but he was a good boy” (like they had time to run a background check), or — my personal favorite — “Why didn’t they just shoot him in the kneecap or something?” (Yeah, like that’ll stop an AK!)

Bottom line is, these kids today are getting more and more out of control. I personally feel it’s because we have gotten so politically correct these days that parents are afraid to even discipline their kids any more. If I were to do even a fraction of the crap kids get away with today when I was their age, my old man would have taken to my backside faster than a fat kid on cake. Of course, I’m not advocating child abuse or “beating” your kids, but a good swat on the ol’ bum always got my attention.

In my experience, though certain behaviors would be classified as “mental” illnesses, many are not biological. Can someone be born a sadist? Of course. But, more likely, this type of behavior is learned and/or developed because no one put a stop to it early on.

Stay safe.
