A person is almost better off to be unarmed than to carry a weapon be it a gun, knife, pepper spray, tazer, etc. without having a solid hand to hand combat training foundation to be able to properly retain and use their weapon should things go south. Weapons in the wrong or untrained hands give people a false sense of confidence and security that they shouldn’t have and if anything can possibly give an already enraged attacker their own weapon to be used against them. Not to mention how much easier it is to defend your actions in court should you be confronted in a situation where the grounds are shaky about whether or not it was truly life threatening if you simply took them down with a good edge of hand, chin jab, or hand yoke or other empty hand tactic than if you pull out a knife and stab them in the neck or pull a gun and shot them. Things worked out and justice prevailed for George Zimmerman but it was still a close shave for him both on the street and later in court too. This is why the people need the SDTS and then and only then after they’ve had proper basic training start strapping on weapons that are legal to carry in their jurisdiction.
