So the coldest air in almost 20 years is forecast to arrive in Tennessee in the next few hours. No time like the present to start making all the necessary preparations. Of course the obvious making sure your home is properly winterized to maximize energy efficiency when heating your home and pipes and plumbing have adequate heat or protection to prevent freezing and expensive leaks to repair, making sure you have enough extra warm clothing with you when you travel in case you are stranded on the road, and most importantly making sure our furry friends have sufficient warmth and shelter to survive and be comfortable in frigid temperatures. But as SDTS legioneers we know there is much that can be applied to our training when it comes to extreme weather conditions. We know that if we are attacked we are most likely to be attacked outdoors such as in a store or resturant parking lot than indoors so we better be well trained and prepared to fight in not just optimal but adverse weather conditions. In one video Damian filmed on a cold snowy day in New Jersey he makes a point of this and how much more difficult it can be to fight or pretty much do anything else in cold, icy, snowy, weather.

Archie Thomas and I were discussing this and he was talking about how he just got finished training outside when it was cold and how much of a bitch it is to do the module 6 hand and body conditioning drills in cold weather especially when you’re hitting the brick your hand is gonna sting like hell. Not to mention he’s from Louisiana also so we southerners are kind of pussy when it comes to cold anyway. But be as it may we still must train in it, albeit safely and reasonably, so we will be ready if or when we are confronted and have to fight outdoors in such conditions. In his video Damian also discusses how difficult it is to maintain your footing on icy slippery ground and nearly slipping himself demonstrated that and this reinforces the idea as to why we need to stomp and dig our feet in as we are fighting and pressing forward and gaining ground against our opponent not only as an attack against his feet and shins but to maintain our footing and balance and keep from slipping and falling on snow, ice, or other slippery surfaces.

This is why whenever possible I do most of my training outdoors, at least the SDTS stuff, because no matter what it is heat, cold, sunlight, rain, hail, wind, snow, etc. it’s all a possibility of what we will have to deal with should we end up in an altercation in the real world outdoors. If you have trained and prepared to fight in it all then you will be able to survive should you ever be tested for real. Sure as I’ve mentioned sometimes I will get odd looks or comments or questions from some of my “sheep” neighbors as to why the hell is this crazy mofo working out in the blistering 100 degree heat or beating the shit out of a dummy shirtless on his backyard patio when it’s 30 degrees outside? Well for one thing a certain amount of sunlight is good for vitamin D absorption and of course you can always supplement but when possible experts say sunlight is the best and most natural source, and vitamin D is vital for overall health and fitness. But most importantly it builds character and physical endurance and mental toughness. It would be nice and easy to do all my training in the comfort of inside my home where it’s air conditioned or heated and sheltered, but it simply isn’t as challenging and doesn’t require hardly as much discipline as it does to train in less than optimal conditions and most importantly prepares you to be able to function at your best when conditions are at their worst. I don’t know about all of the other sheep out there but as for me I wanna be ready for whatever life will throw at me and be ready to conquer anything whether that threat comes in the form of man, nature, or beast Laugh

Yep all I can say is it’s freaking cold outside! Here in south east Louisiana it’s 29 with a wind chill of 19. This morning at 630 the wind chill was around 8 and of course my dog wants to stay outside and play, hell no haha. Like Dallas said mod 6 is a bitch in this kind of cold weather. [Damian Ross] do you have any tips on training outside in this kinda cold. I know you jersey guys are use to it but us southern boys ain’t used to anything below 30.

Haha 28 would be a fucking heat wave for us here in TN now. Supposed to be 58 degrees here Saturday go figure.

Where the hell was all this snow we were promised?

James I’m in southwest middle TN in a town called Hohenwald in Lewis County. But yeah we barely got a dusting as well as the ground and everything outside being frozen solid like a damn iceberg. Personally I’m glad we didn’t have the snowpocalypse because the cold has been bad enough. My dad works for our local electric company and he was out working overtime all night last night helping the crew repair blown out transformers from the overload of everybody running their heaters full blast. I know it was a bit colder for you guys in Nashville and to the north and east though, glad it’s supposed to start warming up again tomorrow thank God. I enjoy cooler weather in the winter but this is crazy.

      [Dallas Williams],

      No way!!!!!

Brother, I only work in Nashville. I actually live just right up the road from you in Nunnelly. I just tell people I’m from Nashville because no one knows where the hell Nunnelly is. I’ve been to Hohenwald tons of times when my daughter was taking classes at the Tennessee Tech Center across from the high school. Wow… small world. Laugh

No kidding James :) , we’ll have to meet up and hang out sometime. The Junkyard Dog steakhouse resturant is a nice place, at least by Hohenwald standards. We could eat and maybe go over and exchange a few techniques or ideas. I’ve always wanted to meet and train with a fellow legion member but you’re the only one who’s really in my area.

Definitely! Shoot me a PM at scribesntribes[at]gmail and I’ll send you my cell number. It’d be great to get together sometime.

Dog sounds good. Although, I’ve noticed HPD likes to hang out at that Mexican restaurant next to the train “museum”… and one thing us cops are good at is finding food! Laugh
