I was recently asked…“How can I improve my reaction time?”
      My answer:
The first & most important thing I can recommend is to make sure you have defined EXACTLY what reaction you want to have to EACH action your attacker is likely to make. If you haven’t already defined these, then you have to decide or make it up on the spot… …that’s much too slow! So, for example, define these…
Your attacker sticks a hand gun in your face – your reaction is…
Your attacker throws a right cross – your reaction is…
Your attacker grabs you by the hair from behind – your reaction is…
After you’ve defined WHAT you want to do for each, you have to rep them out 1000′s of times so it comes out without thought. Anything less and it won’t be a “reaction”… but rather something that you have to “think” about… again, that’s just much too slow. As we do in class, practice as many different scenarios as possible you won’t get them all, but remember a slow reaction is better than no reaction, always take ground and take their balance. It’s not always about being fast; sometimes the second mouse gets the cheese.
