I was at a party last night and there was a guy about 6’6″. He wasn’t a bad guy, but since all I see is necks and throats, I was wondering what might happen if he was an asshole, and if I could really get into his neck. I’m 5’9″. Do you just work the nuts until you get him to lurch forward?

Say he has you bckd up into a corner, I would personally go with a shin kick and double chin jab. If your in an open space use your instinct, it might be to run or to attack if you attack a few nut shots may work but I wouldn’t rely on that. Just remember to go thru him keep pushing him back with whatever technique you use and repeat until the threat is gone.

      Ditto, Archie. I second that.

In fact, Damian even says that is what the double chin jab is for: taller opponents. It’s the perfect technique for taking on bigger guys since you reach your maximum advantage as you extend your arms upward (I believe he states somewhere around 12 – 18 inches, if I’m not mistaken.) Just attack the man and get him reeling on his heels until he is no longer a threat.

Now in personal experience if someone is much bigger than you and you just simply attack with intent the big bad guy is gonna freak out. I’ve seen that happen a few times at the clubs and bars I’ve djed at. Doing something I better than nothing. But yet if he towers over you the dbl chin jab is great, follow up with knees and whatever else you can and stop the threat.

You can always reach his eyes too. Never underestimate the finger jabs to the eye.

Nut shots are great too, dont forget his knees or his throat.

5’9….your 1 inch shorter than me…and the tallest person I have worked with is 6′ 7″….and I could always reach his eyes.

Yeah a tried and true combination that always works wonders no matter the height of your attacker(but even more so for tall guys) is the knee to the balls chin jab combination. Once you hit the groin they will double over cutting them down to size for you to do other stuff. Or at a greater distance kick to the balls finger dart to the eyes which creates an opening to follow up with pretty much anything else you want, chin jab, edge of hand to the back of the neck, etc.

And last but not least of course you can always stomp feet, kick the shins or knees, and work your way up him from there. This is why whenever we go out steel toed shoes or boots are a must.

I second this as well. I, too, have seen “big” guys fall apart when someone actually has the audacity to fight back… they’re just not used to it. Especially if you happen to be much smaller than them. I’m only 5’8″, so I run up against dirtbags taller then me all the time. Interestingly enough, not many challenge my “authority”, but I am convinced it has less to do with the badge and gun than with the way I carry and present myself. For example, we’ve got an officer that is much taller than me, is in way better shape than me, and is as strong as an ox, but he gets people in his face all the time. I started analyzing why and noticed that he tends to shuffle when he walks and his shoulders are generally hunched. He just looks sloppy.

Didn’t mean to get off topic there, but the point is that the tall ones are often just as scared of getting their ass kicked as the rest of ’em. Smile

Good point James, the thing is a lot of really big guys are not used to being challenged because so many people are intimidated by them just cause of their size and many of them probably haven’t been in a proper fight before and couldn’t even fight if they had to to save their ass. So even if they decide to mess with somebody, no matter how small or big, that is well trained in the SDTS and your presentation alone isn’t enough to scare them off, well let’s just say they’re gonna be screwed.
