This past Saturday I had to DJ a local high schools homecoming dance, which is always fun and interesting to say the least. Anyway about 10 minutes into the gig a girl came up and made a request “can you play some bounce music” however she said it with an attitude (btw she was about 5 foot tall and at least 250 lbs). I simply told her to give me a specific artist or song and she snapped back and said just play some bounce and walked off. Not even 10 mins later she comes back to my table and starts yelling at my assistant to play what she wants. I told get to calm down that it still early an I will be playing her type of music soon, she didn’t like that and started threatening me saying she will jump over the table on me blah blah. About that time I see a cop buddy of mine and I pointed her out and asked if he could please keep an eye on her. A few mins later she came again yelling and when I blew her off and told her she needed to calm down she started running at me swinging. Out of nowhere I threw a web of hand and grabbed her throat and put a wrist lock on her to detain her and walk her over to my cop buddy. I honestly didn’t realize I did it, it happened so fast. Any way after the officer the principle and I, the student who turned out to be over 18 and the school bully all spoke outside, she was suspended from school on the spot. She tried to attack me again outside I front of the officer and principle.
Needless to say now I understand what Damian was meaning by instinctive and convulsive. It happened so fast, I didn’t even have to think. I saw the opening and I went for it. I held back tho, I didn’t want to seriously hurt her bc I honestly have never put my hands on a woman like that and I really felt bad after it happened. But I’m not about to stand there and get hit by a short fat ghetto girl, hell she had a good 70 pounds on my lol.

Well done [Archie Thomas]. No one was hurt and that was that.

The point I want to comment on is “you held back.”

You will know when to turn it on and when to hold back when you’re in the moment. Most people think that when you train like this you will be turned into some mindless killing machine.

Obviously this is not true- but you need to GO and TAKE CONTROL immediately – just like you did.

Right when you put your hands on her she realized she made a mistake.

Give them an opportunity to leave with dignity…then take their dignity away, make them submit, then give ti back to them.

Exactly. I’m human, not a killing machine. I gave her the option to walk and she chose not to, so I wrapped her up and handed her over to the officer on duty. No one was physically hurt. Being the school bully She was embarrassed because someone finally stood up to her, someone had to do it. I can’t stand bully’s. The principle shook my hand and said thanks because they have had a lot of problems with her and because of whatever reason they couldn’t expel her but because this incident was witnessed by him and an officer they were able to suspend her with counseling. Hopefully this can help her change and realize she can’t bully everyone.

Well done, Archie! Still don’t what the hell “bounce” music is, but well done nonetheless. Smile

I love what you guys say about the “mindless robot”. It’s easy to forget that we’re still human and there is still a brain behind all this weaponry. Of course, we still react “instinctively and convulsively”, but we are always in CONTROL of the level of convulsiveness. [Damian Ross] and I have had a similar conversation regarding the difference between GDT and SDTS. They both contain the same technique more or less — with a few added LEO specific extras such as handcuffing, etc. in GDT — but the combination allow us to ratchet the level of control and/or force up or down based on the suspect’s actions. Clearly you can do the same thing with SDTS alone, as your incident shows. Even in the heat of battle, so to speak, you still knew what you were doing; there was nothing mindless about it. Nice job.

      Stay safe, my friend.

Thanks [James Goolsby] bounce is some kind of rap music. I really couldn’t tell ya it all sounds the same to me. Ive been a DJ for 15 years and still can’t figure that one out lol. Just give me some classic rock and roll and some 80s rock and I’m good. But I’m still surprised at myself and surprised at how fast I was able to stop the incident with out hurting anyone involved. SDTS is the best!!! And the elbow/wrist lock I did was curtsey of a Russian friend of mine he learned while in the spetznaz. It starts out as a shoulder lock and down to the elbow and wrist, kinda hard to explain but simple to do.
