Hello Fellas , wishing you all a very Happy New Year.

Been a while since I have posted, I do not know if any of you are familiar with Sammy Franco, or what your views of his system are.

But I forgot I had purchased and now own a copy of his “Widowmaker” dvd and I have to say I do like his way of dealing with a flurry-punch-attack. He calls it the “webbing” strike because it involves putting the palms of both of your hands on the attacker’s face for a moment. Like that scene in Alien, your hands are stuck all over his face and he is of course blinding, annoyed and a bit freaked out. But it is done like basically a two-handed chin-jab. The thumb of one hand goes over the “pinky” knuckle of the other. The use of this strike then steps in and blasts the heel of the palm to the attacker’s chin. As the defender is doing this, his/her arms form a wedge so the punches are pretty well blocked off. But it is a pretty offensive move.

One flaw I find is that if you are doing this with the leg power it is intended for, you’re most likely going to blast him back and won’t be able to “glue” your hands to his face because he’ll either be sent back a few feet, or knocked down completely. It is possible, maybe even probably that Franco got this from the two-handed chin-jab that Fairbairn himself taught for women in Get Tough, but I like his “spin” on it anyway. I think most people here who viewed the video would agree that THAT part would be effective.

      What do you all think?

I heard the Franco is an MMA advocate. I never seen the mans work so I can’t comment. But he probably got it from the double chinjab. Anyway I tend to not take advice if it isn’t from the SDTS or Cestar/Fairbairn related.

Haven’t been here a while but I will post about Sammy Franco. I have the widowmaker DVds and his savage Street Fighter DVD. Some of it is okay like you mentioned, but I agree that if it is not from here or Carl Cestari, it’s not as good. I do take a little of everything I see from anybody as Bruce Lee said. I am aslo a big fan of Kelly McCann, though I believe in this system more. The lead with speed and end with power makes more sense that the SWAMP principle.

Howdy from Idaho. I wouldn’t poo-poo the swamp principle too much. It comes from Bob Kasper, Carl’s long time training partner. Kasper, McCann and Nelson are/were Marines. All are/were heavily influenced by the Fairbairn/Sikes/Applegate/Oneal views of close combat and their own combat experience. SDC is great. I’ve met Damian and we’ve talked a time or two. The SDC isn’t the only valid organization around. Check out McCann on youtube. It’s good shit. He uses the elbow a lot. He’s in the enemies face. Kasper and Nelson were the same way. Nelson liked to punch. Kasper did quite a bit with blades. McCann adds more throws. Big fucking deal. I like what these guys do/did a hellofa lot more than MCMAP or Army Combatives which are nothing more than the latest martial arts fad to hit military combatives. Yes, Damian knows his shit. I like Damian, but we all owe something to these Marines who have kept the fire burning. Nobody else did but these guys and Carl Cestari. All you’re doing when you get into the ” I don’t like Swamp ” or other bullshit is to be exactly the same as the martial arts community. We don’t belong in that community. Let’s not eat our own. Semper Fi. Yes, I’m a Marine.

No disrespect to Swamp. But it just doesn’t work for me. I have many of Kelly McCann’s earlier videos and practice a lot of it. I also have Bob Kasper’s books that are out now. So I obviously respect these men. But as with everything I learn and practice I modify it for my aging beat up 54 year old body.

Good man. My “aging, beat up” 53 year old body can understand where you’re coming from. Semper Fi, my friend. I hope I didn’t come off too strong. These are men I respect a lot. They’re my Bro’s.
