Damian, if you decide to add anything else to SDC training, you should consider borrowing this technique from Krav Maga. I guess this is an epidemic somewhere in the U.S. or in the world. It’s not happening here in Vegas though:

That’s kinda cool. But isn’t that basically the same defense as a rear choke? Your grabbed from behind, turn in smash nuts, or a rear elbow and a foot stomp and knee.

There is really no difference between the defense against that hold and the defense against this one. They are both attacks from behind and the key point to remember when anybody attempts to grab or strangle you from behind is to immediately start changing direction and momentum on them. Start stomping the feet backhanding the groin rear elbow the face and when you get enough space and you get turned around on them finish them off just like you would any other attacker.

      Archie & Dallas,

I agree. It’s pretty much the same “attack”, so I don’t see any reason to complicate things. The only thing that might make a difference is how fast or slow the chloroform might affect a person. Then again, a “proper” choke will render someone unconscious pretty quickly, too, so I suppose this really isn’t a factor. I would love to get [Damian Ross]’s input on it, but at first glance I would say we’re pretty well covered already.

I was actually making a joke. Like the wrist grabbing epidemic. Who is really walking the streets with chloroform in their pocket hoping to just use it? I haven’t seen too many cases, it’s pretty rare in real life. In the movies, yes, real life, not so much. I just think it’s silly to train specifically against being chloroformed (training a specific defense for a specific situation). Next will be defense against alien abductions by tractor beam.

Best defense is the rear elbow spike up high aka pay attention to your surroundings & don’t get caught in the 1st place. If you’re smart you’re only ever going to use mods 1, 2, 5, & 9 out on the street.

      HAHAHA- great [Jacquar Roston]!!! Awesome.

It does prove a point – most self defense comes from what people see in the movies. According to the video (I don;t know if it’s true or not) 10 seconds of inhaling vapors will lead to unconsciousness.

      10 SECONDS! That’s a long time.

JR the reason you don’t see a lot of it in the real world is because it doesn’t work like it does in the movies.

Same can be said for dissolving a body in acid…(oops).
