WHY THE DECLARATION IS FAR GREATER THAN THE CONSTITUTION

This year’s celebration of Independence Day has never been more important, and I’ve noticed the discussions relating to our freedoms, the Constitution, and Declaration of Independence taking a more urgent and passionate tone. I never really recalled people givin much of a crap on the Fourth. Blow shit up. That’s about it. But this year I’ve noticed a very distinct increase in the general awareness of this date’s significance.

I want to make a very important point, in thinking of the meaning of the Fourth of July, which is the fact that the Declaration of Independence is more important than the Constitution; the Declaration, in fact, is the bedrock upon which the Constitution is firmly planted.

The Declaration of Independence begins as follows, and I’ve underlined the passages pertinent to my point:
