Instuctor Badge 1The Self Defense Company Instructor Program is now accepting NEW Applicants.

To discover how you can build a lucrative self defense business in your spare time:

But before you go there you should know a few things…

Yes, it’s true, right now there are Self Defense Company Instructors earning over $80,000.00 per year using this system…BUT I HAVE TO TELL YOU…these results are not typical.

I can’t vouch for your personality, your work ethic or your ability to follow directions and work with a mentor who will guide you every step of the way.

Like most programs, signing up is the easy part, doing them to completion is the hard part.

Oh, and that 80K instructor I told you about…HE WORKS HIS TAIL OFF.

But if if teaching an important life skill to people in your community and earning a living while doing it is something you want to do..

Founder, The Self Defense Company

“I was a starving martial artist…”

Not so much “starving”…I was just tired as hell and had nothing really to show for all of my martial arts efforts. Working all day, teaching at night and about to start a family, I was running myself ragged.

I’ve had three locations (everything from a dance studio to a store front). I’ve also had excellent instructors, but when it came to helping me build and run my business, they were white belts.

Some of them had been in business for so long, that they were literally institutions in their community while others barely made enough to put any money in their pockets.

Most of them worked full time, day jobs and put in another 40 hours a week at their studio only to clear a few grand a month.  From a financial perspective they would almost be better off landscaping or flipping burgers.

When you looked behind the curtain, there wasn’t much money to be made. By the time the rent and utilities were paid, they were making about $15 per hour.

They rejoiced in their “starving artist” persona and looked at successful martial arts chains as “sell outs”. They think success means to compromise your principles.

Before we continue, there are three things you need to understand right away…

  • Making money teaching self defense does not make you a sell out…IT MAKES YOU SUCCESSFUL.
  • Most instructors will barely break even or don’t have the first clue about running a business.
  • Being broke does not mean you’re ‘keeping it real’. It means you’re a poor instructor and/or business owner.

Let me ask you, do you think people sign up because it’s easy to get a black belt?

Fact is, people have NO IDEA what they’re signing up for when they walk through the door.

They assume that all martial arts and self defense are the same. Sure they understand the concept of different styles, but they all figure one place is just as good as another.

The belt factory is successful because of it’s location, parking, and they have business systems, curriculums and a process for all aspects of their business that make it consistent and repeatable.

Whether they’re “easy or not” makes no difference.

I was one of those guys who learned from a “never sell out for success” instructor and I almost lost my house because if it.

I mortgaged my house to purchase my first building.

I figured as long as I could pay my mortgage, I’d at least have something to show for it.

$200,000.00 and 6 months later I was getting in over my head.

Anyway, I’m losing about $600 to $1000 per month and I’m taking money from my day job to pay for my martial arts mistakes.

The idea was to stop the day job, not to go deeper in debt!!!

Oh did I mention I’ve made every mistake in the book?

Like I tell my instructors, “I made them so you don’t have to!!”

Then I decided to end it. No, not the business, my ignorance.

If there’s one thing you should know about me is that I assume full accountability for my failures. And if you want to be successful, you should as well.

Since my instructors couldn’t help me, so I thought it was time to help myself…

  • I joined Stephen Oliver’s Mile High Karate coaching program.
  • I got into Rob Colasanti’s “Inner Circle”
  • I even attended Dance Studio Business Seminars

There was some decent information in these programs but they primarily focused on teaching children.

I didn’t want to do that.

Sure I love coaching kids and enjoyed teaching them Judo, but at the end of the day I didn’t want to deal with parents.

Don’t get me wrong, most people are great and understanding, but every so often you get the one person who makes your life miserable.

I just didn’t want to deal with that any more.

Plus, these programs centered around large locations with plenty of parking.

I didn’t have that and wasn’t about to drop $25,000 per month like some of the big schools.

Now through my research I found tow books that REALLY changed my life.

And if you want to start someplace, get these two books:

Small Dojo Big Profits  The Profit-Boosting Principles: How to Dramatically Increase Your Martial Arts School Profits Without Increasing Your Overhead (Martial Arts Business Success Steps)Ir?t=theseldeftras 20&l=as2&o=1&a=0989668312

The E-Myth  The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About ItIr?t=theseldeftras 20&l=as2&o=1&a=0887307280

These two books changed my perspective on how I look at martial arts and of course, how I looked at my business.

Small dojo made it clear that you don’t need a large space, with a lot of students and insane overhead to make a profitable business. Remember when I told you about the instructor who would have been better off flipping burgers?

That school owner had 100 students and was paying $8,000 per month in overhead clearing about $3,000 per month while working 40 hours per week.

When I was renting space part time in the dance studio, paying $400 per month working only 4 hours per week, teaching about 25 students I was bringing in $2,500 per month.

I was making $150 per hour while he was making $18.75 (plus I wasn’t teaching kids).

This revelation forced me to look at my current situation and regroup and rebuild it based on my “dance studio days.”

The E-Myth was a revelation as well. There’s a lot in this book.  One of the things I will share with you is you need to make your business work FOR YOU.

Most people work in their business and not on their business.

You will spend more time teaching class and less time developing business strategies to expand your business.

As a one man shop you are the marketer, bookkeeper, maintenance man, manager, and administrator.

There’s a lot to do and a lot to learn and if you don’t have systems in place, you will NEVER be successful.

You could be the greatest instructor in the world, but if you’re not getting new students in, making sure they pay and while you pay the rent…you will be frustrated, get tired and quit.

And…what happens when you get sick or take a vacation?

You have to close the shop and you DON’T MAKE MONEY.

Eventually this will happen and if you’re teaching by yourself you’re only going to make money when you physically work.

There are only 24 hours in the day and you are just one person.

The reality is you need to REPLICATE YOURSELF.

You need to develop instructors and have a plan in place for them to succeed and grow.

Next you need to do more than teach.

A multi-stream income is a MUST if you’re really going to make a living in any business.

Finally, you need an exit strategy.

Every business on the planet has a life cycle. You need to think about how you want it to end when you’re ready to move onto the next phase of your life.

This is why it’s important for you to develop successors.

In the SDC Instructor Program we will show you how to replicate yourself, build a multi-stream income business and of course, help you every step of the way.

We will help you replicate yourself and make sure you will continue to earn money even after you “retire”.

It’s all built into the program.

I know this is not for everybody. It’s a lot of work.

This is a complete certification and business building program. We will give you the tools and the plans to build the house, but you have to go out and actually build it.

We’re also not going to take your money and leave you alone.

You will get your own personal instructor mentor to help you build your business from the ground up and help you manage it for as long as you wish.

Your mentor is someone who has had success using the Self Defense Company Program. They will get you trained, get you certified and help you find success in your failures.
