The Mayweather victory proves once again that I am right.

As I predicted, it wasn’t close and Mayweather SCHOOLED MacGregor showing how much MMA fans are delusional about their sport.

The vast majority of people thought MacGregor was going to knock Mayweather out…because he “boxed” and started his life as an amateur boxer.

What people don’t realize is that there are many levels to any sport and the guys who specialize are far superior than the guys who do it some of the time – NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.

I’ll say this again – the difference between amateur and pro is NIGHT and DAY. And as you discovered…as far as boxing goes…the difference between an MMA champ and a Boxing champ (in boxing) is night and day.

Of course morons will post “well if it was an MMA fight….” NO SHIT. I’m not talking about that and that didn’t happen.

The bigger picture is this – People who practice MMA think walk around thinking they’re great boxers and grapplers and the truth be told…you probably suck at both.

Unless you have a good solid background in one specific field – there are only so many hours in the day to get really good at one thing.

This has NOTHING to do with the STUPID argument about MMA vs. Boxing…they’re two different sports and there’s NO argument to be had.

But what it does prove that boxing some of the time doesn’t make you a world class boxer all of the time. The same goes for grappling.

There are only so many hours in the day to train, so in reality you become “jack of all trades, master of none”.  Truth be told it’s better to be REALLY GOOD in one thing than average in two things.

Because a GOOD boxer will generally beat a a crappy grappler and vice versa.

Know this: rolling around for 45 minutes a week doesn’t make you a grappler, hitting the heavy bag and sparring for a couple hours doesn’t make you a boxer either and practicing a few self defense moves doesn’t prepare you to protect yourself.

The same goes for self defense.

You must train with a specific purpose. ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL – the person who trains with a specific self defense purpose will ALWAYS have the advantage over the person who trains for sport.

It’s just that simple.

Train Honestly,

Damian

That was a great reply rhetorically speaking.

I’m loving the elite membership by the way. I train BJJ, I think it’s important to train with resisting opponents, but I still use your material because a quote unquote real fight doesn’t really go down like a sporting match.

UFC killed the mystique of martial arts basically overnight. Its incredibly valuable but honestly we all know through YouTube and elsewhere that “real fights” don’t go down exactly like that either. It’s far messier and sloppier. Simpler solutions will probably win the day.

The very important point is that those who train diligently will dominate a confrontation. If you train to be a swimmer, you will outswim the opponent. You cannot train for self-defense with a half-hearted part time approach. Like every thing else in life, regular, intense training will get you the best benefit. The criminals are plotting their approach, their attack, and their escape. How diligently are you planning and training to defend yourself and loved ones? I go through the SDTS each year to review the lessons. I encourage each of my SDTS brothers and sisters to consider a serious approach to a serious issue. B McPherson

I was trained that a person should never box a boxer & never grapple with a grappler in self defense–don’t ever play the other guy’s game–trained 20 years in Judo & Aikido with a little karate (only enough to get hurt)—now, at 65, I know I only have one or two surprise moves against a younger person where I have to get in close and hurt the person quickly. I do have a CHL, but I cannot carry 100% of time. I do have my hands and my mind 100%–I just know I’m not 20 to 40 years old anymore & I have to respect that.

And they made millions of dollars showing us what you say is correct. Defending from fists alone is good for boxing. Defending against a kick or a knee is not needed for boxing, so why practice for what won’t happen in boxing? DUH

Right again Mr. Ross. I guess MacGregor should have gotten some battle dancing lessons from that guy that is a 10 degree black belt that runs a lot. lol

Well Said Mr. Ross, I’ve been training people for decades and always supported the same conclusion. Reminds me of the old ‘Pro’s v. Joe’s’ series? And anytime you have ‘Sport’ connected with ‘fighting’ it’s self limiting in relationship to serious personal self defense instruction such as yours. By the way I really like your martial arts articles in general. I especially liked the one on Bruce Lee.

As Damian says, you just cannot beat an elite athlete at his game. McGregor would rule in the octagon, but in the boxing ring was all Mayweather. Neither of them could out swim Michael Phelps, and he would lose to them in boxing and MMA. McGregor did get himself a huge payday, and I’m sure Dana White is going to have to pay him more in his future UFC fights. For the money in that fight, I fight both of them, and I’m older than both their ages added together. With the breeze of the first punch, I’d hit the canvas and take the losers share of the purse. It was all about money, and at that, they were both winners.

IMO THIS WAS NOT A FIGHT IT WAS A BUSINESS DEAL ” SHOW ME THE MONEY” IMO MAYWEATHER IS MORE INTERESTED IN GETTING WHAT HE WANTS AND IMO I THINK IT IS TO BE KNOWN TO BE THE BEST POUND PER POUND BOXER THAT EVER WAS ( PERIOD ) IMO MAYWEATHER WHO WAS RETIRED I BELIEVE WANTED TO HAVE A RECORD OF 50-0 RATHER THAN THE 49-0 RECORD HE HAD. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT MAYWEATHER HAS ALL HE WEALTH HE WILL EVER NEED THE REST OF HIS LIFE. SO TO HIM IMO MONEY MEANS LESS THAN HAVING FAME AND TO HAVE HIS NAME IN THE RECORD BOOKS FOR ALL TIME. THE BEST ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. IMO MONEY COMES BELOW WHAT MAYWEATHER WANTS AND IMO HE COULD NOT GO INTO THIS SO CALLED FIGHT NOT 100% KNOWING THAT HE WOULD COME OUT THE WINNER, SO THIS IS WHAT I THINK HAPPENED. MC GREROR HAS LOST SOME OF HIS BOUTS OR FIGHTS SO HE KNOWS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO LOOSE. SO NOW COMES THE BUSINESS ADVENTURE. PROMOTOR (S) AND BOTH MAYWEATHER AND MC GREGOR AGREED TO THIS BUSINESS DEAL WHATEVER THE MONEY AMOUNT EACH GOT TO DO WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN BY BOTH FIGHTERS WHAT TO DO, THEY KNOW THE OUTCOME PROBABLY DISCUSSED OVER MAYWEATHER MC GREGOR AND SOME OF THE FEW OTHERS MAYBE IMO JUST THE FIGHTERS AND PROMOTER(S) HOW MUCH MONEY WOULD GO TO EACH MAYWEATHER AND MC GREGOR AND PROMOTOR(S) THIS IS HOW I SEE IT IMO MAYWEATHER GETS WHAT HE WANTS FAME AND FORTUNE MC GREGOR MORE MONEY THAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE BUSINESS DEAL ON THE TABLE.HE NOT LIKE MAYWEATHER CAN LIVE WITH LOOSING AND THE ONLY WAY MC GREGOR AGREES TO THE BUSINESS DEAL IS ” SHOW HIM THE MONEY”AND THERE IS THE BETTING AND OH! All THE FUN THE TWO GUYS HAD AT ALL THE GET TOGETHERS AND THE FACE OFFS THAT DETERMINES THE FINAL ODDS ON BETTING .NOW KNOWING HOW THE OUTCOME OF THE FIGHT EACH GUY COULD BET ON THE WINNER AND ADD EVEN MORE MONEY TO THE BUSINESS DEAL. WHO IS THE WISER WELL IMO A BUNCH OF PEOPLE BUT IF EVERYONE PLAYS THEIR PART OF THE BUSINESS DEAL, NOTHING WILL COME OF IT WHERE IT WILL CHANGE THE SCAM IMO OF COURSE. AFTER A SHORT TIME WHEN THE BUSINESS DEAL WILL BE ONE OF THE BEST BUSINESS DEALS MADE BY EVERYONE INVOLVED. AND HERE IS THE COOL ( SICKENING ) PART OF THE BUSINESSES DEAL, YOU KNOW WHO PAYS EVERY $ OF THIS BUSINESS DEAL,THE PUBLIC EVERY JOHN DICK JANE SUSAN BILL FREDDY AND YOU. IMO THIS KIND OF CRAP HAS BEEN AND PROBABLY STILL GOING ON FROM THE PENNY ANTE SCAMS ALL THE WAY UP TO ALL OF THE HIDEOUS UNTHINKABLE SCAMS OF THE MAYWEATHER’S AND MC GREGOR’S OF OUR POLITICANS OF TODAY.

All the money in the world won’t compensate for the early dementia & other diseases caused by the tremendous pounding to the head over the years of training & fighting these 2 fighters & scores of others through the ages have endured. Of course other sports like football & soccer create the same problems. Not to mention all the early arthritic joint problems that are created also that are very painful.

  9. Wendy 3 months ago

Typically, when you get into a fight the fists start flying. That’s why a boxer (a good one) would have the advantage. I never watched a Mayweather fight but I knew Mc Gregor would be no match for him.

And yes, I’ll be the first moron to say, if it had been an MMA fight…… ;)

  10. Jim 3 months ago

I’ve watched the fight and must say that McGregor acquitted himself well. I also agree with him that the fight was stopped too soon. Still, Mayweather was going to win the fight. I doubt there will be any boxers challenging MMA fighters to fight them in the octagon.

I couldn’t agree more about the boxer vs MMA in the ring. I said from the very beginning that Mayweather would win the fight. They were boxing and Mayweather is a boxer. There is a psychology to it and Macgregor played right into Mayweathers hands,

  14. Jim 3 months ago

I heard on the news that Conor McGregor got 30 million and Floyd Mayweather got 100 million. McGregor never had such a payday. They showed him the money, and he took it. Smart move on McGregor’s part.

Consensual fights involve egos and generate interest, hype, onlookers, critiques, acclaim, sometimes trophies and large sums of money, and occur in unsophisticated school yard challenges, to more honed skills shown in the boxing ring, MMA cage, wrestling and Judo mats, Karate competitions, and more. For those of us serious about self-defense, it is a matter of survival, from a sudden unexpected violent assault we never want, from one or more vicious attackers. It is possible that some might be less dangerous than others who are dark hearted thugs, rapists, sadists or serial killers who lack a conscience and are intent to brutally take what they want from us, not only our possessions, money, but even our bodies, our life or the lives of our loved ones. These kind of individuals have always existed, they are very real (ask any cop, ask any psychologist or psychiatrist, ask any survivor who was lucky enough to tell the story). These pathological individuals may present as harmless with a sincere smile, or in need of help so that you lower your guard. They conceal their evil nature until they are certain we cannot stop them. But stop them we must, if they target us, and we want to survive. So train like your life or the life of your loved ones depend on it, because too many have not trained hard enough.

Some good points, but biased and dishonest about what happened in the fight, just like the judges. McGregor, at 0-0, acquitted himself well and later commented on the early stoppage. Basically an amateur boxer gave the “GOAT” (not) one of his toughest fights. Leonard, Griffith and some others would have done better against McGregor and Mayweather was indeed on his way to a win, but with a few matches under his belt McGregor could have won. He fought the other man’s fight and did well. On the street, it would have been different.

  17. Clayton 3 months ago

Mayweather was beat by Pacquiao, but the judges must have been counting Mayweathers steps backwards as punches. I hope that he will have one more fight with the Pac Man. I would put my money on the Pac Man and give 10 to 1 odds that Pac Man would knock him out in the first 5 rounds.

  18. Kent D. 3 months ago

Not at all ! He did not prove anything ! You think if Mayweather fought MMA Style he Would Win ! No way ! Besides with Boxing and Mayweather We all know that he Buys Judges ! ( Manny Pacquio Fights)!

The day Mc Gregor put pen to paper he won. Win, Lose, or Draw. He is set.
