Here it is in a nutshell… Take notice many of the instructors in the SDC,
Come from a long line of study… What it really comes down to, are at least from my perspective is this…. There are the traditional martial arts and those that work in every case. The system that works on principle versus technique. I’ve noticed that the…[Read more]
Moving from Kauai to Washington state where I will be making a commitment to teach the SDC. Been teaching for over 4 decades and am excited to have found this platform to work from. I am a 9th degree black belt in Kenpo, I have a black belt in Lima Lama and have been studying La Systema since 1998. What attracted me to the SDTC is the…[Read more]
Marvin the SDTS is based on empty hand combat to start with. That being said, the training teaches us to handle situations effectively without weapons if I dropped my knife I’d finish the job empty handed. Check out the many choices of The SDTS, for me choosing to be an Elite member has been a game changer.
I hold several black belts the highest…[Read more]
Excellent article Damien. This shows the depth of responsibility the SDC goes in order to train and advise anyone willing to listen. I’m proud to be a member of the SDTS. Thank you for your attention to detail and honesty. Aloha from Kauai!
There is no such thing as disabled, I call it differently abled. I lost my left foot due to a brown recluse spider bite 2 1/2 years ago. I am stronger than I have been in 10 years. I do the SDTS simply because it’s the most effective and simplest self defense system. Note; I was watching the military history channel 2 nights ago and they were…[Read more]
The “Drop Step” is what I first learned from my instructor 3 1/2 decades ago in Kenpo. Moving forward solves many problems, you can take away power from a kick, punch, clubbed tool, knife just by closing the distance. Keep moving forward!
Osu! I sure hope that guy who points out grammatical errors does’nt post!
Hahahaha! Good one theselfdefenseco er Damien. There I go spelling your name wrong again! One more time Damian Bravo on a about time post!
Aloha from Kauai!
Here you go again Damian, pissing off traditional martial artists! I could’nt agree with you more! Take note folks, Damian speaketh the truth… If you train to quit with a tap, you’re dead. If you train to pull punches you’ll die.
I’m telling you as an advocate of the martial arts for over 4 decades that it took alot of courage to let go of the…[Read more]
Thanks theselfdefenseco! I felt compelled to comment on this but held my tongue. My viewpoint completely! People who point out other peoples grammatical errors are assholes. I made reference to that at the end of my post mis spelling sentence to see if I’d get called on that. Keep up the great posts Damian, I enjoy there wisdom.
Aloha from Kauai!
Invaluable info once again Damien. Go with your gut/intuition, set your mind to the task. Be aware of your surroundings at all times, if something “feels” hinky, go with it, don’t ignore it. That 6th sense is incorporated into our DNA, hundreds of thousands perhaps millions of years of life and death experiences automatically available, all it…[Read more]
Good read Damien. Donn F Draeger is in my library .
I haven’t read his books in many years but now I am going to reread and see what comes out of it. Didn’t know him but wanted to meet him, he is a true martial arts legend. Thanks for the reminder of a great Martial arts practitioner.
As usual Damien, on point. My close friend just opened a Premier Martial Arts Dojo and part of the marketing is Krav Mana and BJJ along with MMA. I have watched his classes, he knows very little about self defense and I struggle to keep my mouth shut. It’s all about the money which is why I walked away years ago. Fine motor skills are lost in an…[Read more]
