INSTRUCTOR’S BIOGRAPHY – DARREN C. POESELnDarren Poesel began training in traditional Japanese Martial Arts in the early 1980’s. From that time onward, he has trained in a variety of Martial methods both Eastern and Western to include Korean, Thai, Chinese, Filipino, Western boxing, Close Quarter Military Combatives and Western Combatives. nDuring the 2000’s, he was highly influenced by the teaching of Damian Ross and Carl Cestari and it was through Damian Ross that he was fortunate enough to begin the study of WWII Combatives. He has continued his training under the supervision of Damian Ross as well as Lee Morrison and Kelly McCann. Additionally, he has trained under Peyton Quinn, and Bill Kipp to learn about the adrenal stress response.nCoupled with his 26 years of experience in the United States Marine Corps serving in a variety of Infantry, Reconnaissance and Intelligence-related capacities, he has tested and taught these Combatives principles to the United States Military, Foreign Military, Department of Defense Civilians, and State Department Personnel in combat zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan. nThe basics of what he teaches come from the cultivation of good Personal Security skills. The Combatives principles taught predominately lie around awareness, avoidance, threat recognition, pre-cue indicators and confident body language profile. This is the Self-Protection element (or ‘soft skills’), which is supported with the basic gross-motor toolbox (‘hard skills’) that is simple to learn and easy to retain under stress. This, of course, relates to the physical combative element.nThe powerbase that drive us in a physical sense comes from our combative mentality and perspective throughout the entire spectrum of a violent altercation. The basis of that are simply the combined elements of impact and attitude/mindset.nPlease note that everything he teaches is geared for counter-violence from a street perspective of verbal de-escalation, anti-bullying tactics, and conflict-resolution – it is not for sport, or art for art’s sake. There will be role-play, dialogue and profanity, as well as non-compliant simulation drills and a degree of stress inoculation.nFAYETTEVILLE, NC 28311 -“MericanAdditional Training Certifications:nSDTS - Level 4 Instructor in the SDTS under Damian RossnUrban Combatives - Apprentice Instructor under Lee Morrisonn5th Degree Black Belt – BujinKan Taijutsu under Dr. Masaaki HatsuminCertified F.A.S.T Instructor under Bill KippnCertified NRA Instructor (Pistol and Rifle)nLtCol USMC (1986-Present) – Combat Veteran of three wars (Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan)
