Marshfield, Missouri – The Self Defense Company announces today that it has expanded to the Ozark Mountains with it’s newest Instructor – Mr. Kip Marsh https://www.facebook.com/OzarkMountainsSDC

Instructor Marsh’s Self Defense Journey

Instructor Marsh began his martial arts’ career in 1974 while attending college at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.  After seeing an Aikido demonstration by students of Toyoda Sensei of Chicago at the Northwestern student union, he signed up for lessons.  He trained in Aikido for one year at Northwestern and until his instructor left.   After that he had the bug and sought out what training he could find at the college some of which included Shotokan karate, wrestling, and boxing.

Service to His Country

While attending Northwestern, Kip was an NROTC  U.S. Marine Corps reservist and midshipman.  After graduating from Northwestern with a BS in Education, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He served a total of 4 years active and 4 reserve.  During that time, he graduated from U.S. Army Airborne School in 1974, the very first Marine Corps Infantry Officer Course in 1977, and the U.S. Army Ranger School in 1979.  While in the Marines he continued to train in boxing, and trained briefly in Hwa Rang Do.

First Responder

Upon leaving the Marines in 1980, Instructor Marsh embarked on a career in emergency medical work as a Paramedic and RN, and in family medicine as an NP. Having a busy career and raising a family put constraints on his ability to train. However, he still managed to train in Taekwondo, Taiho-Ryu, Jeet Kune Do, kickboxing, and kenpo karate.

The Black Belts

In 1998 he became a 3rd Degree Black belt in Kenpo.  Ten years later in 2008, he was promoted to Black Belt in HaganaH, an Israeli system similar to Krav Maga.  He ran a successful martial arts school for over 10 years from 1998 to 2008.  It closed in 2008, when he decided to begin overseas contract work.  Instructor Marsh was deployed to Kosovo,  Liberia, Afghanistan and Iraq over the last 10 years.  He has  now returned to the USA and  teach self-defense full time.

“Throughout the last 44 years, I have continued to seek out, train in, and compare many different martial arts, styles and systems.   I was searching for something that made sense and was reality based.  Within the past year I have been fortunate to find The Self Defense Company.   Mr. Damian Ross has perfected a system that is based on concepts that work in the real world, and not simply an aggregate of techniques for pre-planned situations.   I am proud to be an Instructor in The Self defense Company’s System and I look forward to many years of teaching this system.” – Self Defense Company Instructor Kip Marsh

“It is my honor to have an instructor with the wealth of experience and knowledge on the Self Defense Company team. I look forward to working with him to help expand the reach of the SDC. Thank you for finding us Kip!” – Damian Ross, Founder The Self Defense Company
